TURKISH CLOTHING MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION

  • TGSD was established in 1976 in order to prepare the necessary environment for the development of clothing industry in Türkiye, to lead the sector, to promote it abroad and to ensure sectoral cooperation.
  • It is a professional organization that was given the status of an association “for the public benefit” by the decision of the Council of Ministers in 2003.
  • 28 Ocak 2025 tarihindeki Genel Kurul Toplantısı’nda, TGSD 25. Dönem Yönetim Kurulu Başkanlığı’na seçilen Ümit Özüren ve Toygar Narbay, konularında uzman ve başarılı 24 dinamik Yönetim Kurulu Üyesiyle birlikte TGSD, Türk hazır giyim sektörünü siyasi otorite, bürokrasi ve yurt dışında da uluslararası üst kuruluşlarda TGSD vizyonu ve misyonu çerçevesinde başarı ile temsil etmektedir.
  • TGSD was affiliated with the World Apparel Federation (IAF) in 1988, the International Color Commission (INTERCOLOR) in 1996, the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX) in 1997, the Good Cotton Practices Association (IPUD) in 2017 and Textile Exchange in 2023. Former and actual TGSD board members held and are currently holding the President and Board Member positions at IAF and EURATEX respectively.
  • TGSD has always been in close relations with textile vocational high schools, textile design and engineering departments of universities, and has given priority to joint projects on skills development.
  • TGSD has been organizing the annual "Istanbul Apparel Conference” (formerly known as Istanbul Fashion Conference) since 2007 in order to bring representatives of the whole chain of supply together including but not limited to manufacturers, fashion designers, accessory manufacturers, companies from retail, logistics, insurance and machinery sectors. On the first day of the conference more than 40 industry leaders, experts and senior managers share their experiences with over 1,000 participants On the second day, around 1,200 business meetings are held on the B2B bilateral business meeting platform, where global buyers and local manufacturers explore new business opportunities contributing to the growth of Turkish textile and apparel export.
  • UFUK 2010, the only “Road Map” of the Turkish apparel industry, was prepared for the first time in 2003 by TGSD and contributed to the preparation of small and medium-sized companies for the quota-free and competitive world arena under the “Free Trade” conditions that started in 2005. The UFUK study, which includes the sector's forecasts for the vision of 2010, formed the basis of the Textile, Apparel and Leather Sectors Strategic Action Plan for Change, Transformation Support, as a pioneer in the formation of the National Strategy at the time of its preparation. The book touches upon domestic market developments, such as the rapid development of organized retailing, and includes active marketing initiatives to neighboring countries and Northern European countries and other potential markets where market depth has not yet been penetrated. On the local production side, the book foresees the relocation of factories from big cities to Anatolia, in other words, “the agglomeration of the garment industry in specialized industrial zones (clustering model production basins)”.
  • UFUK çalışması, 2016 yılında “UFUK 2030” olarak yenilenmiştir. Güncellenen kitapta, küresel ve sektörel eğilimler 2030 yılına kadar değerlendirilmekte, Türk hazır giyim sektörü için 2023’e yönelik stratejik hedeflere ve destek programlarına yer verilmektedir.  2024 yılında UFUK 2040 hazırlık çalışmalarına başlandı. 2025 yılında sektör ile paylaşılması hedefleniyor.
