TURKISH CLOTHING MANUFACTURERS’ ASSOCIATION

  • TGSD was established in 1976 in order to prepare the necessary environment for the development of clothing industry in Türkiye, to lead the sector, to promote it abroad and to ensure sectoral cooperation.
  • It is a professional organization that was given the status of an association “for the public benefit” by the decision of the Council of Ministers in 2003.
  • TGSD member companies are the leading exporters of the sector, realizing around 60% of exports, mainly exporting to the EU, the UK and the USA.
  • TGSD was affiliated with the World Apparel Federation (IAF) in 1988, the International Color Commission (INTERCOLOR) in 1996, the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX) in 1997, the Good Cotton Practices Association (IPUD) in 2017 and Textile Exchange in 2023. Former and actual TGSD board members held and are currently holding the President and Board Member positions at IAF and EURATEX respectively.
  • TGSD has always been in close relations with textile vocational high schools, textile design and engineering departments of universities, and has given priority to joint projects on skills development.
  • TGSD has been organizing the annual "Istanbul Apparel Conference” (formerly known as Istanbul Fashion Conference) since 2007 in order to bring representatives of the whole chain of supply together including but not limited to manufacturers, fashion designers, accessory manufacturers, companies from retail, logistics, insurance and machinery sectors. On the first day of the conference more than 40 industry leaders, experts and senior managers share their experiences with over 1,000 participants On the second day, around 1,200 business meetings are held on the B2B bilateral business meeting platform, where global buyers and local manufacturers explore new business opportunities contributing to the growth of Turkish textile and apparel export.
  • Türk hazır giyim sektörünün “Yol Haritası” niteliğindeki tek çalışma olan UFUK 2010 kitabı ilk kez 2003 yılında TGSD tarafından hazırlanarak özellikle küçük ve orta boy şirketlerin, 2005 yılında başlayan “Serbest Ticaret“ koşullarında kotasız ve rekabete açık dünya arenasına hazırlanmasına katkıda bulunmuştur. Sektörün 2010 vizyonuyla ilgili öngörülerini içeren UFUK çalışması, hazırlandığı dönemde Ulusal Strateji oluşumuna öncü olarak, Tekstil Hazır Giyim ve Deri Sektörleri Stratejik Eylem Planı Değişim, Dönüşüm Destekleme çalışmalarının temelini oluşturmuştur. Kitapta iç pazar gelişimlerine; örneğin organize perakendeciliğin hızlı gelişim sürecine değinilmekte, çevre ülkeleriyle ve Pazar derinliğine henüz girilmemiş Kuzey Avrupa ülkeleri ve diğer potansiyel pazarlara aktif pazarlama girişimlerine yer verilmiştir. Yerel üretim bacağında da fabrikaların büyük kentlerden Anadolu’ya taşınmaları, bir başka deyişle “Hazır Giyim Sektörünün ihtisas Sanayi Bölgelerinde Toplulaştırılması (kümelenme modeli üretim havzaları)” kitabın öngörüleri arasındadır.
  • UFUK (HORIZON) 2010 book, which is the only "Road Map" of the Turkish ready-made clothing industry, was prepared for the first time by TGSD in 2003 and contributed to the preparation of small and medium-sized companies, especially, for the world arena open to competition and without quotas under the conditions of "Free Trade" that started in 2005. The HORIZON study was renewed as “HORIZON 2030” in 2016. In the updated book, global and sectoral trends are evaluated until 2030, and strategic targets and support programs for the Turkish apparel industry for 2023 are included. Now, we work on HORİZON 2040, an updated version, to be published in a year.
