VERY IMPORTANT DUTY IN EUROPE FOR TGSD PRESIDENT HADİ KARASU

Our Chairman of the Board of Directors, Hadi Karasu, was elected as the Vice Chairman of the EURATEX Board of Directors, representing our association and our industry, at the General Assembly of the European Textile and Clothing Confederation EURATEX held on June 26, 2020. ⠀

TURKEY’S IMPORTANCE WILL INCREASE EVEN MORE IN THE NEW NORMAL

“The EU’s legislation on the textile and ready-to-wear sectors is 90-95% shaped in line with EURATEX’s recommendations. I attach great importance to my role in the EURATEX management, which takes part in the formation of policies on textile and ready-to-wear and guides decision-makers, on behalf of our country and our sector. I am also proud to have been selected for this position as the joint candidate of the civil society organizations representing the textile and ready-to-wear sectors in Turkey. There are nearly 200 thousand enterprises, most of which are SMEs, within EURATEX, 160 thousand in Europe and 35 thousand in Turkey. Approximately 2.5 million people, 1 million of whom are in Turkey, are employed in these enterprises. The supply chain is being reshaped in the ‘new normal’ that has emerged following the pandemic that threatens the entire world. At this point, the importance of the ‘local for local’ production structure, and therefore Turkey, is increasing even more. As the ‘new normal’ is being formed, EURATEX will have important duties in the formation of the sector’s strategies and in communicating them to policy-makers.”

Hadi Karasu added that the continuity of the ‘free but fair trade’ policy and rules of origin should be one of the most important agenda items of EURATEX during this period.
